The best part of off-grid living is having town within close proximity for supplies. You can feel like you are far away and isolated from the world here but 20 minutes down the mountain is Fort Garland. You can find gas, groceries, and hardware here and more amenities in Alamosa, another 45 minutes west. Alamosa is a small city with big box stores, medical facilities, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment. There is local events, holiday happenings, and seasonal festivities offered throughout the small towns in the San Luis Valley. If you must, you can drive to Pueblo, Colorado Springs, or Denver in less than 4 hrs.
