Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Denver are all less than 4 hours. You have your piece of protected seclusion with these major cities on the other side of the mountain range. Taos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque  are also less than 4 hours south into NM. Far enough away to keep the tranquility of the valley but close enough for convenience. 

The area has very unique tourist attractions such as the Great Sand Dunes, Zapata Falls, natural hot springs, state forests, wildlife preserves, the Rio Grande River, the 14ers (Blanca and Lindsey), Stations of the Cross, Crestone Spiritual Center, and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. I highly recommend an internet search for these phenomena, they are definitely “must-see” destinations!
